Minimum Age Requirement for employment is 16.
Lifeguard position requires certification through StarGuard Lifeguard. Red Cross certification is accepted, however a 8 hour bridge between Red Cross certification and StarGuard is required prior to employment.
Swim Lesson Instructor positions require certification through StarFish Swim School. Red Cross and WSI is acceptable however an 8 hour bridge with other certification and StarFish is required. New swim lesson instructors are required to take a 40 hour certification class. Swim test is required prior to interview.

Arthritis Exercise Therapy Class is approved by The Arthritis Foundation. This 45 minute warm-water exercise program concentrates on flexibility, mobility and joint range of motion. Classes are held in a shallow, 86-87 degree pool. Monday, Wednesday 9:15 - 10:00 am
Deep Water Aerobics Class is fun, simple, and easy on the body. Yet even fitness veterans will be challenged. This water fitness program will help anyone improve balance, flexibility, muscular strength, and cardiovascular conditioning. Participants must be comfortable in deep, cooler water to participate. Monday 9:15 - 10:00 AM, Wednesday and Friday 10:00 - 10:45 AM Evening - Tuesday & Thursday 6:00 - 6:45
Body Sculpting 45 minute, shallow water class for every age and fitness level. 25 minutes of heart-friendly cardio exercise plus muscular endurance moves makes up each session. Positive Changes is a total body, low-impact fitness class for the 55+ water enthusiast. This 45 minute program includes a warm-up, stretching and range of motion exercises, toning, cardiovascular conditioning, and a cool down. Senior Aqua Tone is the right choice for the young at heart. Shallow Water Aerobics will get your heart rate up, tone your muscles, improve your flexibility, all with very little impact. Instruction is given in the shallow pool in chest-deep water. Monday & Wednesday 6:00 - 6:45 pm Tuesday & Thursday 5:15 - 6:00 pm
Move and Groove is a new water walking class plus a whole lot more in 30 minutes. Come in for just a power walk or add it on to the beginning or end of the class you already attend. Monday, Wednesday, Friday 10:45 - 11:15
Lunch Bunch is an excellent 30 minute cross training for runners and cyclists. It is a perfect class for burning lots of calories in a minimal amount of time. Monday, Wednesday, Friday 12:00 pm
Prenatal Water Aerobics Keep exercising with this class just for pregnant women. Deep and shallow water workouts to help with cardiovascular conditioning, muscular strength and flexibility. Classes are held in a 85 - 88 degree pool. Tuesday and Thursday - 6:00 - 6:45

Helpful Information
Age Requirement: Children 13 & younger must be accompanied by and under the supervision of a parent/guardian (or responsible individual at least 16yrs old with proof of age) at all times while on Chatham County Aquatic Center property. The Chatham County Aquatic Center reserves the right to refuse admittance or remove from the facility any children who are unsupervised under these guidelines.
Attire: Swimmers must wear swimsuits. Proper swimming attire is any garment designed for wear in the water, except garments that expose the buttocks or breasts. Street clothes (denim shorts, shirts, pants, etc) g-strings or thongs will not be allowed. Swimmers may wear t-shirts over swimwear if the shirt is made of light-weight material and does not extend below the knees or elbows.
Diapers: Regular diapers are NOT allowed in the pool. Any individual that does not have complete bowel and bladder control must wear a swim diaper (a special diaper designed for pool wear and available at most stores). Swim diapers are also available for sale at the front desk.
Equipment Check Out: A limited number of lifejackets are available in youth and adult sizes. A limited number of kickboards, noodles, and exercise belts are available for adult exercise use only.
Food and Drink: Food and drink are allowed in the pool area, but must be kept away from the white deck perimeter of the pools; anywhere on the dark grey concrete is allowed. All drinks must be in plastic or can containers-NO GLASS. Cooking is not allowed in the pool area. Alcohol is not permitted inside the facility or on the premises (including parking lot). The staff reserves the right to refuse entrance to intoxicated individuals.
Illness: In order to minimize the risk of guests being infected with a contagious disease, persons with the following conditions should not swim: fever, sore throat, diarrhea within the last two days, open sores, athletes foot, or any other contagious condition. The front end personnel have the authority to refuse admittance and the Duty Manager has the authority to deny use of the pool to any individual in which symptoms are present.
Lockers: Lockers are available for rental to members only. The Chatham County Aquatic Center is not responsible for loss, theft, or damage to money, valuables, or other articles belonging to those using the facility. Other patrons may use lockers on a temporary basis; however, locks may not be left on overnight.
Pool Rules: Pool rules are posted in the pool area next to the drinking fountain. After one verbal warning, individuals who continue to disregard pool rules will be issued a written warning, followed by expulsion from the facility at third offense. Exception: individuals who behave in a manner that compromises the safety of other guests or the facility are subject to immediate expulsion.
Pool Use: The 50 Meter pool is for lap swimming and training classes only. The pool is not restricted by age, but by the type of activity. For example, a 10 year old who has swim team experience is capable of swimming laps. Lap swimming refers to continuous swimming from end to end in a lane without stopping.
Spectators: Spectators or individuals bringing a participant to a class or activity and who remain on deck do not pay admission. If you or other family members will be swimming during a class time or entering the pool area during recreational swim sessions, you must pay regular admission rates.
Safety Breaks: The recreational pool may be cleared of all swimmers for fifteen minutes prior to every hour during crowded periods for a safety break. Safety breaks are at the discretion of the duty manager, and are signaled by three long whistle blasts.
Diving Block Use: The CCAC does not allow the starting blocks to be used without the supervision of a coach or instructor. Further, only the instructions of diving & competitive starts are allowed. Feet first entries, reaction time drills, and any other method to promote proper starts are allowed, as long as the safety of the swimmer is a priority. Cannon-balls, can-openers, flips, backward dives, and any other entry that involves the head leaning back towards the pool wall or starting block is not allowed.
Smoking: Smoking is not permitted inside the building or near the entrance area.

StarBabies (Parent/Caregiver with child ages 6 months 36 months) The purpose of this course is to develop in very young children a high comfort level in the water while at the same time training parents in water safety and drowning prevention. This course does not teach children to become accomplished swimmers or survive in the water; it does provide a confidence building, fun, loving experience. One parent or caregiver must be in the water with each child. Swim Diapers required.
SeaSprites (Ages 3-5) Designed to meet the needs of pre-schoolers, this class will develop a high comfort in the water, a readiness to swim, and for those children who are developmentally ready, teach beginning swim skills. Students work toward development of the five core swimming competencies and receive color level patches for each achievement. Approaches teaching skills through creative, fun activities.
SeaStars (Ages 6-8) Students work toward development of the five core swimming competencies and receive color level patches for each achievement. The color levels are used to divide students into broad ability groups. Children progress at individual rates with the opportunity to learn the core swimming skills and progress to advanced strokes. Learning is self-paced but challenging. 5 year olds at Level Red or above may enroll.
SwimStars (Ages 9 & Older) Students are divided by age group and ability level (Ages 9 to 15, Beginner Adults, & Advanced Adults). Classes are taught along the same philosophy as SeaStars.
StrokeStars (Any age that meets skill prerequisite) Swimmers refine freestyle and learn stroke technique for backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and more!
AngelFish The AngelFish program is designed to meet the needs of your special needs child. These classes are taught along the same philosophy as the Starfish Swim School. The classes will provide necessary teaching adaptations and or adaptive equipment that may be required to make your child as independent and successful in the water as possible. Private lessons are available for children and adults of all ages.
